Landscape/Place Assingment

I feel that this assingment went fairly well under the circumstances. I had to start over in the middle, so I didn't have time to take as many photos as I wanted, but I'm still satisfied with the final products. After putting it on the blog, I realized the tree in the second to last photo looked a little funny, and i wish I caught that sooner. Other than that this project turned out well.

Duplicity Assingment

Floating Man
This project was fairly simple. I had to try multiple camera positions before achieving a successful background shot. Then I had my subjects assume several different poses. Computationally, the photos were simple to take. The hardest part was finding the best pose.

The hardest part was the editing. At first, I just erased the stool to make it look like he was floating, but when I did that, the bricks in that area were unaligned with the rest of the wall. I attempted several different edits to correct this, and they all failed. In the end I just erased the entire photo except the spot where the subject was.

I think this photo was very successful. The edits are clean, and I feel proud of their quality.

Advritisement Project

Security Photo

DirecTV Imitation 1

DirecTV Imitation 4

DirecTV Imitation 5

DirecTV Imitation 6

DirecTV Imitation 7

DirecTV Imitation 8
The final photos of this project are on two subjects. The first one is meant to resemble a photo form a security camera. I accomplished this by puting in text that is similar to the information displayed on typical security feeds, making it black and white, and by using a Photoshop to make it seem a little blurry. The other 8 photos are meant to imitate DirecTV ads. Where there is speaking in a DirecTV ad, I put text in  my photos that followed their ad's typical pattern. I feel both instances are fair representations of what I was trying to accomplish, although I wish I could've spent more time on editing my photos, but I was pressed for time.

Photographer Research Recreation

My photographer inspieration, David Baily captured the culture of London in his era. Rather than trying to emulate that culture, I chose to represent modern culture, specifically the sterotypes about said culture. I feel that the photos posted above accomplish that fairly well.

Constructed Reality Project

Big Busines and the Middle Class

Nostalgia 1

Nostalgia 2

It was a little dificult to get ideas going for this project. The creative process took longer than I would've liked. After I got through that the project went much more smoothly. I did not construct any setups, or use lighting set ups. I simply used props. I feel the project went very well.
I do wish that I had realized that someone had accidentaly photobombed the only usable shot of the second to last sceen, and that I put more emphasis on the toys in the last series.

Photographer Research Assingment-Sandy Skoglund

Biography;Born September 11 1946 in the New England region. Studied studio art and art history Smith College in Northampton. Earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from University of Iowa in 1972. Started to teach herself photography to document her artistic endavors. Eventualy she began creating photos as art.

Signifigance; Her photos are trademarked by containing an overwhelming pattern of a single type of subject, often a houshold pet. This subject pattern is trademarked by being in a color which sharply contrast a dull background. Here most famous photos are Radioactive Cats"and"Revenge of the Goldfish".

Concept; I believe thgese photos are speaking out against keeping pets. In both caces we see a common household pet takeing over a human home. The people being in dim colors and the pets being more vibrant helps support this.

I like her use of contrast to create both emphasis and movement.

Constructed Identity Prompts

1) This video (link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDYDxWSjVJw) was extreamly cool. The ability to construct a virtual 3D set, then put real-life models into that virtual set is astonishing. This will certinely change that which we call photography, and art as a whole for ever.

2-1) Realitively speaking, my identity is not "constructed", I don't praticualary wory about how I dress or how my hair looks or any of that stuff. So long as I am  not filthy,  I am okay with how I look natuaraly. Likewise, I don't "preform" my life. I don't modifyy behavior in any way. I simpily act in a way that I believe to be appropiate, weather I am talking with friends, teachers,  or family.

2-2) My cultural/social enviorment on the other hand is definitely "constructed." My friends, for example, will act more formaly if a teacher or other adult is in the vicinity, and will act much more natuaraly if there isn't.

2-3) The physical space around me is one hundred precent constructed. I live in an urban enviorment. All biuldings, from my home, to my school, to the grocierie store my family shops at are all artifical constructions. Even the plant life within the city is cultivated,  and therefore constructed.

2-4) I consider my self and my family to be real, my friends and teachers to be half constructed - half real, and the physical space around me to be completly constructed.

2-5) A narative tableux I could create would be to have several people in formal suits siting around a large rectangular table, with one at the head of the table standing up, having just banged his fist on the table.

2-6) I could also do the scene in 2-5 with formaly dressed dolls, with a mineature table.

3) My 4 concepts for the Constructed Reality project are as folows:
    1) A parody of Toy Story in which a kid discovers his toys are realy alive, terifying him/her.
    2) A constructed scene in which an RC helicopter starts flying itself and destroies a room.
    3) A scene which we see a person destroying a cardboard skyscraper, from the prespective of a person on the ground, preportionaly scaled to the skyscraper.
    4) A scene in which we see a large group of people fighting (riot).

Cookie Cutter People

Identity Drain

The Thinking Man

I definitely did a lot of experimentation with concept throughout this assingment. "Cookie Cutter People" was definitely the hardest. It proved very challenging to produce the sillouet effect useing artificial backlight. However, after two days of trial and error, I managed to produce a fairly good result. The other photos proved to be much easier in technical execution. The only chalenge with these was conveying the desiered concept. I did a lot of experimentation with lighting, location, arrangement of subjects, and shot angle. Overalll the results were very satisfying. The only thing I found dissapointing  was the way the body in "The Thinking Man" was shadowed. I also wish I could've mande "Cookie Cutter People" a little brighter.

Memory Recreation

This photo is a recreation of the first time I saw snow, which was when I moved to Colorado 3 years ago. I can use this memory because, unlike most of my classmates, I haven't lived in a snowy enviorment my whole life. In fact I grew up in a hot, desert enviorment so seeing snow was a shock to me, making it a very prominite memory. In order to make this photo more memory like, I used negative clarity in camera raw. I also slightly increased the black level to simulate a fading memory. I used a slightly cool temprature to convey how cold I felt at the time.
